Mind- Bending Pictures was honored to work with WET Productions during WET’s annual LOVE Benefit on April 19, 2010. We had the pleasure of working with very talented Hollywood actors, whom we’ve admired for such a long time. Being huge fans of such television shows and films such as Dexter, Entourage, 30 Rock, Watchmen, and Star Trek, we quickly came on board to produce a promo spot for the event. The promo video is currently in post-production and will be posted soon. Mind-Bending Pictures would like to give a special thanks to Victoria Pettibone, Sasha Eden, and Amy DePaola for all their hard work and support with such a wonderful organization.

Check out some behind-the-scene photos and screen grabs from the video shoot: WET’s LOVE Benefit 2010

Here is a recap of the April 19th benefit event:

(via broadway.com) On Monday, April 19, the stars came out to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of WET Productions, a non-profit dedicated to empowering women in the arts and media, at their Love Gala. Love was a one night only benefit performance of short plays on love, written by some of the hottest women writers in film, theater and TV and performed by celebrated actors. WETs notorious annual Gala followed the presentation. BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration.

Produced by founders Sasha Eden and Victoria Pettibone, and directed by Abby Epstein (The Business of Being Born), the evening featured performances by Emmanuelle Chriqui, Rosemarie Dewitt, Ron Livingston, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chris Messina, Mamie Gummer, Zachary Quinto, Jennifer Westfedlt, Carla Gugino and more.

The evening featured the inaugural We Empower Together award, presented by Nora Ephron (Julie and Julia, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally) to honoree Lynda Obst (Acclaimed Producer of The Invention of Lying, Sleepless in Seattle). The We Empower Together Award celebrates a woman in the media whose extraordinary accomplishments have paved the way for other women to succeed by changing the way the world sees women and women see themselves.

WET additionally honored Maria Zuckerman (Vice President HBO Films, Grey Gardens) with The Risk Taker award, recognizing a woman in the middle of her career who is producing groundbreaking female driven projects.

Proceeds from the Love Gala will go to support support WETs new film division, WET Films, created to develop and produce new material for film, and WETs award winning media literacy & leadership program for NYC teenage girls, WETs Risk Takers Series.

What did we do to deserve what is possibly one of the worst movie going summer seasons ever? As you may all know, the summer blockbuster season is when Hollywood pulls out their big guns and release their films on the prospect of making a crazy profit. Super hero movies, sequels, animated films, and explosions are all present once again this year.

While all that is nice and glamorous, we are quick to forget that what makes excellent cinema are well-rounded characters, intriguing storylines, and simply… a heart. Is it really that difficult to have all of the above with big budget explosions and eye candy effects? What about films in the Comedy genre? Is there any possibility of repeating the commercial and critical success of “The Hangover”?

While there are a ton of questions that need to be answered, one question stands out… What is the most anticipated film of the summer? After a long session of researching and thinking through… Who am I kidding? It’s Inception, Inception, and Inception! Research, my ass! I came to that conclusion the moment I saw the first trailer LAST SUMMER!

What’s being proclaimed as “Memento” with “The Dark Knight” money seems to be something so fresh and remarkable. Anyone who’s seen the trailer easily gets a case of goose bumps. A talented cast of actors, strong images, an intriguing story, and a big budget. We have a winner!

Below is a list I have compiled separating some of films of the 2010 Summer Blockbuster season. Please remember, watch with caution…

To say that Lady Gaga has taken the music industry by storm is a huge understatement. Her debut album “The Fame” released four #1 singles in the billboard pop charts. No other artist in the history of Billboard has accomplished this with a freshman album.

Try scanning your radio stations at any moment of the day and it’s 95% guaranteed that you will hear a Lady Gaga song (Trust me I’ve tested this.) With a win and an amazing performance at this year’s VMA’s she really set the bar high for herself. She showed everyone that she isn’t your typical “pop princess.” Even Madonna, the queen of pop, has gone on record saying that she is a fan and is flattered with the comparisons. With an upcoming tour and a new album on the way, Lady Gaga has released the music video to her new single “Bad Romance.”

Just when you think she couldn’t outdo herself again and impress the hell out of you… she does. ”Bad Romance” directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine, I am Legend) shows us, through style and metaphor, the evolution of a good girl gone bad during a relationship. If you are familiar with Lady Gaga’s videos, then you know how important art direction and costume design are to the treatment. “Bad Romance” is no exception, with reminiscent images from films like “2001: a Space Odyssey” or “Blade Runner”, we are introduced to a futuristic interpretation of a forceful relationship and what it means to be a tough female spirit.

Beautifully shot and edited to perfection, the strong images fully compliment the fashion choices and choreography. Just like Lady Gaga herself, the video is very unique for something coming out of the pop genre. It’s a clear breath of fresh air to know that a mainstream artist is still able be very unique and artistic without falling into the depths of cliché. The song, the style, the direction, and all of the above easily make “Bad Romance” an amazing video. Just when “Paparazzi” was being claimed as her masterpiece video… this one tops it. Overall, thank you Lady Gaga for bringing something new and fresh into the music industry both through visuals and sound. She deserves all the attention and success that is coming her way… and she did it by simply being herself.

Watch the Video:
